OELVN otome newcomers Audilis have launched a Kickstarter Campaign for their maiden PC/mobile title, Love is a Game. With now 41 days to go, Audilis has accrued $6,672 of their $11,000 goal, backed by 147 people (with the backer rewards outlined in chart form here). They have also started a Steam Greenlight campaign for the game. For those interested, a trial of the game has also been made available for Windows, Mac and Linux users via, for Android users via Google Play or for iPhone/iPad users via the Apple Store. According to their development timeline, Love is a Game is projected to become available during the Summer 2017.

Visual novel review site ADVaNCE will be launching the first issue of their English visual novel e-zine on 15/7/2016 via My review of Love in the Glen will be featured in it, which is why I haven’t posted a review on my blog by the three-month period I said I would try to aim for in my beginning-of-the-year post. The Love in the Glen review was intended to be posted this month, but I have decided to use it for my magazine submission. To make up for this, I intend to post an extra review by the end of this year.

Similar to what 7’scarlet did, Collar x Malice will also be holding an event in which fans get the opportunity to trial the game. The event will take place on 17/7/2016 at Shinjuku Marui Annex.

A promotional movie of the upcoming Otomate Party 2016 has been uploaded. The event will be taking place on 13~14/8/2016.

Otomate will also be holding a full orchestral performance of music featured in three of their popular series: Hakuouki, Amnesia and Code: Realize. The concert will take place on 19/9/2016 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. It will also feature appearances by some of the games’ seiyuu cast members.

Although Ozmafia -vivace- (the PSV port of the original PC game) was released on 26/2/2015, Poni-Pachet have created a trial of it that can be downloaded via the PlayStation Network. This also coincides with the release of a non-free Ozmafia PSV custom theme.

  1. Congratulations on 100k views Laramie!! Very well deserved °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

As for this week… the new A’s ring game certainly has a darker atmosphere at first glance compared to say, Orfleurs or Onedari Sharemate. I don’t recall liking either of those games very much so I doubt I’d buy Enkan no Memoria or Furue, Yurayura to unless they get some of the best reviews ever or something www

I’m surprised you didn’t include any of the localization announcements by Aksys in this post. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how that all turns out. On one hand I’m glad to see more localizations, but on the other hand I wonder what the thought process was when they chose which games they’d localize. And the translations… I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in how that will turn out too www I’m still afraid to touch Norn9 after what everyone’s been saying about the translation. Kind of glad I got it so cheap on sale now lol _(┐「﹃゚。)_ oh well, I’m trying to be as optimistic as someone like me can be about the whole thing (which is completely contrary to my natural instinct to be 10000% pessimistic) because I really do want the games to do well (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ it’s always exciting to see the interest in otome games grow here in the West (。◕‿◕。)

    • Thank you very much Usagii, and sorry for the delayed reply!

I don’t know what to think of A’sRing’s tone shift. Their writers are mostly poor at their craft and are “meh” at best- I’ve played both ONEDARI Sharemate and Orfleurs as well. It’s hard to say which is worse, but I’ll go with Orfleurs for now because it tried to have a “plot” but dropped the ball more times than acceptable. The “legal proceeding” revealing the info-dumped “truth” was so poorly done that it made me cringe. At least ONEDARI Sharemate didn’t wax and wane between trying and failing to have a story- it was a steady stream of “too fast-paced, but harmlessly mediocre” writing. I wasn’t expecting much from the people behind those shoddy Tiaramode games anyway.

Plus A’sRing established themselves as “that 3P R18+ otome brand”, so that’s where the focus will be going, most likely. Unless they’ve really changed for some reason (poor sales or the poor-to-average reviews that could impact future sales might motivate them to). Like you said, I’d be open to them if they got really good reviews, but let’s just say their first two works tainted my image of them.

About the localisations… They COMPLETELY slipped my mind. Again, another localisation announcement I forgot about… =/ Thank you for letting me know; I’ll be including them for this Sunday’s post.

I can see where you’re coming from, as well. I really want to see more localisations as well. But where I find I differ from other otome gamers (especially the ones who predominantly play in English) is the fact that I will NOT support just ANY localisation. For instance, I will not be touching anything by E2 Gaming with a 10ft pole at all until they issue a formal apology to Otome Jikan or Jess. It angers me that people are acting like plagiarism is no big deal. They’re a bunch of- LOL excuse me- “professionals” that should be better prepared and translate their own character profiles. Also, I am strongly considering to never buy anything from Aksys because they blocked critique about Norn9. I hate bad business practices more than terrible translations.

There is a widespread misconception that buying more localisations will lead to a higher number of better ones. Like I said previously, you’ll see more in terms of raw numbers, but not in terms of higher quality ones.

So Aksys- who couldn’t even handle two in the same year competently- announcing four titles at once for 2017 sounds like history will repeat itself. They don’t even want to confront the Norn9 brouhaha so I’m not sensing a strong drive to accept critique and improve. Like any business, all those sales told them was “our customers will buy this at this price for this quality”. I’d like people to start remembering that Aksys is a BUSINESS tapping into a niche and potentially profitable market (just look at how much money fangirls drop for the games and husbandos they love).

Period Cube and Bad Apple Wars are mediocre anime rip-off otome games (not just my obviously biased opinion; it’s the general consensus) and Collar x Malice isn’t even out yet. The only announcement that made sense to me was the Code: Realize fandisc.

Currently, there’s no incentive for me to support any of the four games and Aksys’ dodgy handling of Norn9 complaints basically sealed the deal for me.

All that ranting aside, thanks again for reading and supporting me!

Don't be shy, leave a reply!
