The Sunday Otome Gaming Mail: Issue #13

UPDATED: 16/5/2016

Good morning!

Now that Golden Week is over, it’s back to business for the Japanese otome game companies so news is picking back up.

With the release of My Secret Pets! by Dogenzaka Labs on Steam, I’ve updated the May 2016 Monthly Releases post to include it.

+ Reporting period: 9/5/2016~15/5/2016 +

Newly announced games:

Major official site updates:

Through a VNDb edit, I’ve come to learn that I was mistaken in my romanisation of Oumagatoki. According to play movie, it is Oumagatoki ~Kakuriyo no Enishi~ NOT Fuchi. All previous instances of Fuchi have been edited, as have the game’s tag on this blog. Please excuse my mistake.

HuneX have announced that they’ll be releasing an all-ages PC otome game in 2016 called Steam Prison. Described as “an ADV romance game in which the irrationalities of the world are reformed”, additional details regarding Steam Prison‘s plot and characters are scarce at this point. However, what is known is that OZMAFIA!!‘s Yuumas will be handling the scenario and writing (with some involvement by HuneX themselves as well) with character designs and artwork done by Ichiiro Hako of drama CD series Guilty7 fame. Curious fans can stay updated via the game’s official Twitter and blog.

Dogenzaka Labs released another English localised and Steam ported mobile game in My Secret Pets! (Japanese title: Himitsu no Pet: Hatsujou Chuu) on 11/5/2016. Until 18/5/2016, potential players can buy the game for 40% off.

Following Apple Cider’s Caramel Mokaccino Prefundia page launch is the all-important unveiling of the game’s Kickstarter campaign this Sunday (15/5/2016)! The alpha demo of Caramel Mokaccino can be downloaded via the official page of the game. Due to timezone differences, this issue of The Sunday Otome Gaming Mail may be published before the Kickstarter is unveiled online (which is why there is no link to it), so for those who want to stay in the know, I recommend you to keep an eye on the Prefundia page. UPDATE: Their Kickstarter is now online!

In the latest issue (released on 28/4/2016) of Famitsuu Weekly magazine’s Famitsuu Cross Review, Kenka Banchou Otome and Period Cube ~Torikago no Amadeus~ were reviewed. Both scored 31/40 (Kenka Banchou Otome: 8/8/7/8, Period Cube: 8/8/8/7), netting them a Famitsuu Silver award each. For those unfamiliar with the Famitsuu Cross Review scoring system, it involves a panel of 4 game critics reviewing the same game with each critic giving it a score from 0~10. This makes 40 the highest possible score, with awards of distinction being given to games earning: 30~31/40 = Famitsuu Silver, 32~34/40 = Famitsuu Gold and 35+/40 = Famitsuu Platinum.

Ladies’ accessory makers Aerl’s high-end brand Aerl*les bijoux have collaborated with Norn9 ~Norn + Nonette~ to create a clip-on bag charm designed in the franchise’s image priced at 9,200 yen. The serene silver, blue and white colour choices aim to evoke the image of blue skies and white wings. As a preorder-only special product, potential buyers have from 09/5/2016 until 05/6/2016 to place their orders, with deliveries scheduled for sometime during July 2016.

★ Aerl*les bijoux will also be collaborating with the Hakuouki franchise to create a Hakuouki: Shinkai-inspired bag charm. The charm aims to evoke the image of traditional Japan and sakura, with ts main colourations being pink and purple. Just like the upcoming Norn9 bag charm, Hakuouki: Shinaki‘s one will also be preorder-only and scheduled for delivery during July 2016. However, it will cost slightly more at 9,400 yen and the preorder period is from 13/5/2016 until 13/6/2016.

The website of Otomate’s annual event, Otomate Party for 2016, has now been opened to the public. Visitors can now check out the event’s schedule and ticket prices. To stay further updated on Otomate Party, there is an official Twitter account that may interest fans; especially those that wish to keep an eye on any new game or drama CD announcements made during the event. As reported previously, Otomate Party 2016 is to be held during 13~14/8/2016 at the Tokyo Kokusai Forum (Hall A).

Koei Tecmo’s otome game division Neoromance will also be holding a summer event called BRAND NEW SUMMER. Of particular note is the event’s Ruby Party, in which new game announcements are planned to be made. BRAND NEW SUMMER is schedule to be held on 31/7/2016 at Pacifico Yokohama’s National University Hall. The event will be taking place twice on the same day, divided into a day and a night session. Tickets can be purchased through GAMECITY. Those wishing to keep an eye on the events and its announcements can follow the official Twitter account or subscribe to the Ruby Party YouTube channel.

Broccoli and KLab will be collaborating to launch a new “rhythm action” Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ mobile game called Uta no☆Prince-sama♪: Shining Live. Both Android and Apple users will be able to play the game. KLab will be handling the development while Broccoli will be publishing the game. No additional details have been revealed at this stage.

Kadokawa (through their otome publication brand, Dengeki Girl’sStyle) will be releasing an official Prince of Stride fanbook called Prince of Stride: Alternative. The fanbook will be priced at 2,700 yen and will be available for purchase on 31/5/2016.

In the same vein as Prince of Stride, Broccoli will be releasing a “visual book” of Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ called Uta no☆Prince-sama♪: Prithm with all illustrations done by the original artist and character designer Kurahana Chinatsu herself. While the book on its will cost about 4,000 yen, fans who want to take home the Broccoli Store exlusive limited edition will need to invest 9,000 yen instead- but this will net them a special microfibre bath towel and a miniature clear file case. Prithm will hit stores on 23/7/2016, but fans wanting to take home the store exclusive set will need to place their orders by 03/6/2016.

Otomate’s official Osomatsu-san otome game- tentatively entitled Osomatsu-san ~The Game~– has been confirmed for a PlayStation Vita release. No additional details about the game itself have been announced as of yet other than the fact that it’ll be told through the ADV format. However, preorder and store bonuses are already up on some stores (which Otome Lab have compiled).

Following the May 2015 stage play adaptation of Koei Tecmo’s Geten no Hana, the original game’s sequel, Geten no Hana: Yume Akari will also be getting adapted for theatre for a 10-day period (during 13/5/2016~23/5/2016). The Yume Akari play will take place at Space Zero, located in Tokyo. Tickets can be purchased through Ticket Pia.

The DVD release date of Meiji Tokyo Renka‘s anime movie adaptation sequel (the first movie being Meiji Tokyo Renka ~Yumihari no Serenade~)- Meiji Tokyo Renka ~Hana Kagami no Fantasia~– has been set for 11/8/2016 and will be distributed by Marine Entertainment.

  1. The music on Steam Prison’s page is pretty nice. The background of the teaser site has me pretty curious, but I’ll be reserving judgment til we get a little more information. Regardless, my interest has been piqued haha

Other than that I’ve got my usual future interests, but I’m not too excited for anything in May other than Period Cube. I’m still going to wait on reviews though before I buy anything haha I swear I’ve become such a pessimist, I just assume every game is going to be total and utter crap until I hear otherwise LOL (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`) unless I’m super obsessed with the game like KgK coughs

As usual, thank you for your hard work! I always look forward to your Sunday posts (*´∀`*)

    • It does seem more interesting than anything HuneX have come up with recently, though I don’t think I’ll touch a HuneX game until I’m assured it’s not a kusoge waste of money.

I SO know how you feel- I’m the eternal cynic and pessimist with visual novels, because I’m so sick of getting disappointed. When I read the story summary and character profiles and notice more than a couple of things that shites me off (if the VN didn’t include something that’s an instant “NO” to me in the first place), I’ll close the official website and never look back for purposes other than otome news. I could easily get into a looong discussion about this, but let’s just say that given where most companies’ priorities lie in making a visual novel, I’m dissatisfied a lot of the time. Some can’t even reach “meh” levels if the Amazon reviews and blogger reviews are to be believed.

You’re very welcome, and thank you for your continuous support! =)

  2. Bishounenpalace

Thank you much for your updates! 🙂 Now visiting here is part of my daily activities (^ω^)
The new CGs of Enkan no Memoria are so beautiful (>人<;) and oh man, when will it be released! I can’t wait. I guess atm, they’re still in drawing CGs process, that’s why there’s no game system preview on the website. The game is said to take up 4GB HDD so hopefully the CG amount will be substantial (^∇^)

    • Thank you for visiting and for your support!

Wow, 4GB?! That could indicate that they’re making a high-quality long game, but it could also mean that there may be some animated CGs? =O

Don't be shy, leave a reply!
