The Sunday Otome Gaming Mail: Issue #9

Hello again!

Since Dogenzaka Lab released another game in Pub Encounter on Steam and Twin Project have finished and released the translation of Monochrome Heaven, I’ve updated the April Releases post.

Also, I will be making a separate post detailing a list of NaNoRenO 2016 otome games much like the style of my usual monthly posts. This is to avoid making my April Releases post and the doujin/OELVN section of next month’s Releases post overly long.

+ Reporting period: 11/4/2016~17/4/2016 +

Major official website updates:

  • Black Wolves Saga -Weiβ und Schwarz- website opened on 11/4/2016. Currently, visitors can only check out the Story, Characters and Gallery sections. For those unaware, -Weiβ und Schwarz- is the double PlayStation Vita port of Black Wolves Saga -Bloody Nightmare- and Black Wolves Saga -Last Hope-. The port is planned for a 2016 release.
  • Hana Oboro ~Sengoku-den Ranki~ teaser site uploaded on 15/4/2016. This is Otomate’s latest release. Information is still very scarce, though those interested can start following the game’s official Twitter account.

Release dates confirmed for:

In the 15/4/2016 issue of Famitsuu’s Cross Reviews, Nil Admirari no Tenbin: Teito Genwaku Kitan scored Famitsuu Gold, having obtained 32/40 (8/8/8/8). Kamigami no Asobi: InFinite also got reviewed, netting 28/40 (7/7/7/7). For those unfamiliar with the Famitsuu Cross Review scoring system, it involves a panel of 4 game critics reviewing the same game with each critic giving it a score from 0~10. This makes 40 the highest possible score, with awards of distinction being given to games earning: 30~31/40 = Famitsuu Silver, 32~34/40 = Famitsuu Gold and 35+/40 = Famitsuu Platinum.

The title of the of the Code Realize ~Sousei no Himegimi~ fandisc has been confirmed as Code Realize ~Shukufuku no Mirai~ according to the official B’s-Log Twitter.

On Photograph Journey’s most recent staff blog entry, honeybee have announced that a full compilation album for the songs featured in the Photograph Journey series will be released under the title of Kimi ni Okuru Koi no Uta on 24/6/2016. The compilation album will be split into two separate albums; ~Dear~ and ~From~. ~Dear~ will contain the full version of the game’s OP by Antistar, as well as the character songs of Mizuki, Yaichi, Nagi, Tetsu, Kojirou and Yukari. ~From~ will have Richard’s character song (which was previously only attainable if buyers purchased everyone else’s character songs), as well as the character songs of Shizuki, Karen, Takara, Yuuto, Kei and Ryouhei.

A drama CD featuring all 5 main characters of D3 Publisher and Red Entertainment’s PSV otome game, Hyakka Hyakurou ~Sengoku Ninpou-chou~ will be released on 11/5/2016. The drama CD will be called Kusamakura Kidan and will be overseen by Red Entertainment’s CD label, LABEL RED.

On 12/4/2016, Otomate release a bunch of Hakuouki Shinkai: Kaze no Shou PlayStation Vita themes. The only free one is the Chibi Character theme, with the rest of them- being individual character themes or the one general illustration theme- being 270 yen each. Buyers have the option purchase all themes in a value pack called the Deluxe Bundle for 2,457 yen, or they can choose from one of the two 6-character partial bundles for 1,296 yen each. The first partial bundle is called Shin, which contains the themes of Toshizou, Souji, Hajime, Heisuke, Sanosuke and Chikage. The second option is Kai, which contains the themes of Shinpachi, Keisuke, Susumu, Hachirou, Kazue and Ryouma.

Frontier Works will be publishing the first Ikemen Sengoku ~Toki wo Kakeru Koi~ series’ character song and mini-drama CD on 08/6/2016. The three characters that will be featured in this release are Toyotomi Hideyoshi (CV: Toriumi Kousuke), Oda Nobunaga (CV: Sugita Tomokazu) and Akechi Mitsuhide (CV: Takeuchi Shunsuke). It is currently unknown if CDs featuring other characters of the series will be be published.

The second set of Kin’iro no Corda 4 DLC was released on 13/4/2016! Once again, the DLCs are all music sheets that Kin’iro no Corda 4 players can download and perform in-game. Each sheet will cost 350 yen, though buyers are able to purchase all 6 at once for 1,600 yen. The pieces (all classical) are:

  1. String Quartet in F major Op. 96 (“American Quartet”) (first movement) by Dvořák
  2. Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor (first movement) by Tchaikovsky
  3. Pictures at an Exhibition (Promenade) by Mussorgsky
  4. Death and the Maiden (first movement) by Schubert
  5. String Quartet No. 9 in C major, Op. 59, No. 3 (“Razumovsky String Quartet #3”) (fourth movement) by Beethoven
  6. Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191 (third movement) by Dvořák

In their latest staff blog post, Kalmia8 have provided information on how Mac users can play their latest R18+ title, Bocchi Musume x Produce Keikaku.

On 13/4/2016, Dogenzaka Lab released another localised-for-Steam, smartphone-to-PC port in Pub Encounter (or Dandy Shot, its Japanese name). Originally made available for smartphones only in Japan, during the zenith of the oyaji/oji-sama (middle-aged male love interests) otome boom (circa 2012~2013), the game’s niche is its all-middle-aged-men love interests. Until 20/4/2016, the game is being sold at 40% off. Pub Encounter has been added onto the April Releases post.

As with Tooma and Ikki, Kent of Amnesia will also be getting a birthday celebratory merchandise gift pack by COZYWAVE. Kent’s gift pack will also contain a bottle of frangrance oil, a bag charm and a postcard for 6,480 yen. However, while Tooma and Ikki’s gift sets are coming out in May 2016, Kent’s will be available during June 2016 (though his birthday is on 23/9).

With Ron’s gift pack coming out in May 2016, now it’s Nijou Sakuya (29/6) and Yuiga Kakeru (25/7) of the Norn9 ~Norn + Nonette~ series’ rounds. The contents of their celebratory merchandise packs are exactly the same as Kent’s (see the above paragraph), including the June 2016 release period.

The release date of the Hana Awase -Karakurenai/Utsutsu-hen- after story drama CD Karakuri Inori has been set for 11/5/2016. Please beware of possible spoilers if you decide to hit the link- I haven’t played the series so I’m not able to completely police its content.

★ Café 0 ~The Sleeping Beast~ has been Greenlit on Steam.

Winer Wolves’ latest staff blog post has indicated that a beta of Queen of Thieves should be available by May or mid-June 2016.

The beta of Kadin’s route in the OELVN Prank Masters is now available on their! Windows, Mac and Linux players are also free to try out the demo (also downloadable from the game’s page) before taking the plunge.

Fan translation group Twin Project have completed the translation and porting to Ren’Py of free doujin otome game, Monochrome Heaven. It was originally released in 2009 by doujin circle DIGICLA. Monochrome Heaven has been added to the April Releases post.

Happy Backwards have released an open beta on the page of their free ADV x rock band simulation otome game, Rock Robin. Story Mode is completed, however, the Open-Ended Mode (featuring the possible band recruits) will be released on a schedule, which you can check out here. It seems that the plan is to make the full game available by 10/6/2016.

With NaNoRenO 2016 concluded, English Otome Games have compiled a list of otome games that were submitted during the VN game jam event. More titles may be added in the future as they become available. For those who aren’t sure what NaNoRenO is, it’s an annual visual novel game jam event in which participants challenge themselves to create a VN within a month. NaNoRenO takes place during the whole of March, and is mostly held at Lemmasoft Forums (perhaps the largest OELVN development gathering on the web). I will be making a separate post about otome NaNoRenO games so that the April Releaes post won’t take years to read.

The demo of Infurubia by Chegovia (a.k.a. “Clua”) has been uploaded for those keen on giving the game a try. You can also follow the development blog, though there is a spoiler warning.
